Getting the Lay of the Land (conner)

Post by Raven on Mon Jul 27, 2015 3:06 pm

Walking slowly the teen ruffled his hair and was happy to see the courtyard. Setting his backpack down on the ground by a bench he laid down on it and shut his eyes. Blinking he stared up at the sky through his sunglasses. His mind was a whirl with trying to puzzle out why the sudden move. Not that he was complaining since he really wasn't leaving anyone or anything behind.

He was used to traveling, but not so unexpectedly. Maybe a slaying had gone wrong? Even though his family were slayers it didn't mean they all went out at the same time. And whenever Kado was sent to slay a vampire or werewolf, the teen wasn't allowed to go by himself. Last time he'd been given a solo mission he'd let the target escape and claimed he hadn't seen them.

Sighing, let his eyes drift closed wondering how long they would be staying this time. It really was bothersome to have to enroll in all the different schools. And he also had to go to that gathering to meet the Hunters in this area. They would probably be all the same just like all the other ones.

Hearing someone approach, Kado opened his eyes and tilted his head back slightly to see who it was. Wordlessly he waved his hand in silent greeting.

Conner wasn't one to make friends out of boredom but she had this weird feeling the kid laying out Ianthe middle of the courtyard would be somehow important to her. Her father had always told her to trust her gut so she did. She looked down at the male and eyed him. He had not reacted to her scent, so she was leaning towards human.

"You are?" She asked as she sat down, smoothing her skirt out from beneath her. She still had paint on her hands, arms and face and her hair was still in a messy bun. But the moment she started to care would be a rather cold day in hell. She shrugged her backpackers off onto the ground as she waited for an answer.

Kado studied the girl as she approached then sat down, his head and eyes following her movements. Looking at the paint, he at stared before answering monotonically, "Kado Theron."

He saw no reason to hide his last name. Sitting up he continued to stare at the girl. Whenever he entered a new school he was usually left alone. Some would come up to him, but he knew it was because he was new and nothing more. When he kept to himself they left him alone after realizing that he wasn't interested.

There was something about the way that dried paint looked that bothered Kado but he didn't say anything. "I just transferred in. And who might you be?"

"Conner McNeil." Conner said just as automaton as Kado did. She liked him immediately just for that reason. Bad reason to like someone's company that was. Bad reason. Conner hated herself for a moment and she then looked down at her lap. "Why are you laying on the ground?" She didn't ask it like a question, she asked like it was a statement.

Her fingers clenched and on her wrists she touched the base of her knives hidden beneath her shirt and she immediately felt better.

"Why not?" He returned. The ground was a lot more comfortable then the benches. And he wouldn't have to worry about turning over and falling off. Besides, he liked to have something solid next to him. That was just something he couldn't explain.

Pulling his legs up and draping his arms across them he gestured towards the paint on her hands. "Why do you have a color that doesn't exist in paint dried on your hands?"

Conner frowned as she looked at her hands. "There are all colors in paint... but this particular blue is mixed with blood. My fault.... Didn't clean the wound better." She said, poking at the knife slash she'd make just minutes before. Her hands were covered in flecks and dabs and she loved it. It tagged her as artist, which was true, but also hid her as assassin.. which was also true.

Conner swept her finger through some white that hadn't fully dried and moved to sweep it cross Kado's cheek. "You're going to get sunburn..." She said looking up at the sun.

Kado's stare increased as his eyes now went along every paint smear picking out that particular shade of rust. He held himself still when the girl painted his cheek. Following her gaze up his eyes squinted and he looked away quickly his eyes already hurting for just that brief time. "I wear sunscreen," he replied but gave a slight smile. "I could try your trick and wear paint."

Besides it was a habit for him to wear long sleeves, thick clothing, or have his outfit be layered. Today he had actually forgone all of that in favor of jeans, t-shirt, and leather jacket. His jacket though was in his backpack which helped in making it a comfortable pillow.

One hand went and clutched at the rosary under his shirt absently. "Bleach will wreck your brain," he informed her.

Conner frowned just staring at the male. "Bleach makes hair dye stick better." She said quietly. That way if she had to run she could die her hair fast on the run. She didn't tell him that. "I should...." what? Go? She had no classes. "Erma.... nevermind. Are you hungry? "

"It also ruins the hair follicles and increases the percentage of your hair thinning so you'll be bald by the time you're in your thirties." Kado's face stayed in a stoic mask nor did his voice change the entire time.

Standing and brushing off the back of his jeans, he picked up his bag and took a seat next to Conner on the bench. Had he struck a nerve with the hair comment? No matter, what he said was the truth. Shaking his head he rubbed at the paint on his cheek. "I wasn't sure what the menu would be like so I brought my own food."

Wiping his paint smeared hand across his thigh he stated, "But if that was an offer to show me around, I'd be much obliged."

He'd in all ctuality smeared the paint on his cheek and it made her laugh. "Stay still." She said as she leaned over and wiped the paint off until it was barely visible. "There." She said and shrugged. "The menu is shit, it's school food. But we can walk around. I do need food though, so... vending machine stop?"

Kado stiffened but stayed still as she wiped the paint off his cheek. Wiping at the spot he eyed the girl. He'd never had someone do that before. Nodding at her statement about the food around here he stood. "Lead the way."

He'd be able to get an idea of what the school was like and he would have someone to answer his questions. "I'm guessing they have art classes or is that a pass time for you?"

"Most of my classes are art classes." She said and looked straight forward. "It's better than getting outbeat in history by blood suckers." She said the last under her breath so she wouldn't be exuding the fact that they were in a school filled with vampires. She lead him around the outside of the building, showing him everything the school had to offer, mostly in a monotone voices since most of it had to do with sports and she'd never touch a sport with one of her perfectly assassin-made hands.

"Seems simple enough," Kado commented as his gaze took in everything. He'd visit the rooftop later and see how one would access getting up there. Looking back at the girl he stated, "You must like art then."

The school seemed nice enough. And it didn't take long to memorize the building. Wondering how long they would stay this time, Kado wondered too what this area of Hunters were like. If they would mind his family moving here. "And this school."

"The school is great I suppose. But the people, some anyway... They uhm... Well I can't stand most. Nice to find someone who isn't bloody annoying like most." Conner tilted her head and sighed. "I love art... but arts more than a class. Sometimes art is just..." She stopped and looked up. "Like that. Like the sky... More mysteries every few hundred thousand miles."

Conner grinned but realized she was showing herself. She dropped her face to a flat set and looked up at Kado. "What do you like?"

Kado smiled slightly at her comment since some did find him annoying. He couldn't really relate to them since his upbringing was so much different. That was what he assumed. Looking up, squinting through his sunglasses, he tried to understand what she said. It was a bit how he viewed life. There was always something there, just waiting to be explored or discovered.

Dropping his gaze back down towards his shoes, the teen shrugged slightly. He liked martial arts, not for the fighting, but when he was practicing alone, it relaxed and calmed him. And when he watched it in action in others... "I like the unknown," he quietly replied back. "And martial arts," he admitted after a minute in honesty.

Conner smiled and nodded. "Unknown is nice." She whispered and shrugged. "I mean... If you're into that kind of thing..." She said and laughed, looking over at him. "You know how to fight? I'd love to practice with you sometime!" She said and then nodded. "Well... That's basically the whole 'this school sucks' speech. Got any more questions, Jackie Chan?"
